TCP/IP Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol
The two basic building blocks
of the Internet. TCP is a connection-oriented protocol, while IP is a lower-level
packet handling protocol. They work together to move information on the Internet.
Telecommuters
People who take full advantage
of today's technology--phone, fax, e-mail--and work from home. (Usually with one
cat in their lap, another drapped over the monitor, and a dog warming their feet!)
Telnet
A protocol that permits your desktop
computer to connect to a remote computer anywhere in the world. Once you are connected,
you can use the programs and/or information stored at that host computer.
Thread
A series of messages and replies
about one topic within a newsgroup.
